Our Mission

The International Infection Prevention and Control Alliance (I-IPC-A) is an independent international alliance providing a unified voice to promote and advocate for the implementation and sustainability of infection prevention and control (IPC) worldwide.

Why have an Alliance and why now

At the beginning of 2026, a group of IPC leaders met to discuss growing concerns about the future of IPC worldwide, and the concept of establishing an Alliance to link people together in order to ensure “organizational memory” and ongoing support for many global, regional and national IPC initiatives built over the last decades and delivered across care settings.

Our now agreed mission, priorities and guiding principles outline why we exist and why we believe this Alliance is needed.

Features of the Alliance

Support advocacy for sustained IPC around the world, to provide and encourage:

  • Independent expert leadership, promoting IPC worldwide;
  • Co-operation, mutual respect and teamwork;
  • Integrity, openness and transparency;
  • Independence in the rigour of evidence, analysis and synthesis;
  • Excellence in the quality of any Alliance outputs;
  • Equitable access to Alliance information;
  • Existing IPC activities and initiatives, at a time of political and structural change.

Our guiding principles

The Alliance:

  • Is voluntary and free; and is based on a shared commitment to IPC activities worldwide;
  • Is based on mutual trust and respect;
  • Does not intend to replace, duplicate, or “take-over” the activities, mandates or expertise of any existing member organizations or structures. Instead, its’ intention is to complement such activities;
  • Provides independent leadership and coordinated advocacy and collaboration to maximise the promotion of IPC. It is guided by evidence, global health priorities and the collective expertise of its members.
